Boys Soccer: Baraboo won in convincing fashion twice in matches at RAHS Saturday. Baraboo won 7-0 over La Crosse Logan to kick off the day with five first half goals with Tyler Vrondran, Tyler Laux, Evan Uphoff, Doug Mc Donald and Brandon Bowers all finding the back of the net before halftime with Ben Geenen and Matt Brooks also scoring in the second half for the Thunderbirds who erupted offensively while allowing only one shot on net. Baraboo then knocked off Holmen 4-1 in their second match of the day with Tyler Laux scoring a goal three minutes in with Ben Geenen and Isias Thomas also converting first half goals with Brett Siedschlag and Brandon Bowers adding assists as Baraboo led 3-1 at the break and added a Brandon Bowers goal to win 4-1. Adam Peterson made three saves in goal as Baraboo delivered a nice bounce-back performance after losing 7-2 to Beloit Memorial in the opener. Baraboo goes to Monroe tomorrow.
Reedsburg also beat Holmen and Logan at RAHS Saturday to put their early season record at 4-0. Reedsburg beat Holmen 1-0 to start the day as Garrett Goodwick scored the lone goal of the match as he did in a 1-0 win earlier vs River Valley as Tyler Dregney made seven saves. Reedsburg got their offense rolling in a 6-0 win over Logan with Lucas Lavely scoring two goals, giving him four for the season, with Derek Weber, Devin Quick, Logan Penkwitz and Alex Wolter with goals as well while Tyler Dregney earns another shutout with 11 saves. The 4-0 Beavers face their stiffest test so far Tuesday at Fort Atkinson.
Poynette-Portage wins the title at the Berlin Invite Saturday with wins over Campbellsport 1-0, Berlin 2-1 and over Omro 2-0 in the title match. Ben Pucel had four of the team’s five goals on the day and Kyle Tomlinson had one goal and one assists with the Poynette-Portage United coop now 3-1 for the season.
Girls Tennis: Baraboo wins the team title at the Monroe Doubles Invite Saturday, beating out five other schools including Sauk-Prairie. The Freshman tandem of Mariah Alicea and Amanda Lee won the championship at four doubles while Sabrina Fuller and Hannah Shumway placed second at 1A as did Liz Schnee and Alyssa Lee at number three. Baraboo will keep their doubles lineup intact for today’s Baraboo Doubles Invite at 10 AM with Portage, Oregon and Monroe also in action today. Portage lost duals to La Crosse Logan 6-1, to Aquinas 5-2 and 7-0 to Luther at UW-La Crosse on Saturday. Jayne Hurd and Kristen South won singles matches and the doubles team of Addie Hemming and Nellie Hilgendorf all won a match Saturday for the Warriors.
Reedsburg hosts Sparta and Mauston in a triangular at 10 AM today with the Beavers 1-4 in duals with losses to Logan, Holmen, Tomah and Monroe with a win over Wisconsin Rapids Assumption.
The area high school girls golf teams-Portage, Reedsburg and Wisconsin Dells, will play today at the Waunakee Invite today at the Meadows Of Six Mile Creek course. All of the area teams will also play at the Reedsburg Invite tomorrow and at the Portage Invite Wednesday.
Girls Swimming: Sauk-Prairie’s girls swim team placed fourth among five teams in their season openinge meet at De Forest Saturday. Jordan Evans in the 500 Free and Erin Statz in the 100 Back had third place efforts to pace Sauk individually. Baraboo opens the season Thursday at home with Berlin.
Dells Raceway Park: Feature winners Saturday at DRP included Nick Nolden for the Late Models, Randy Breunig for the Sportsman, Dave Trute for the Pure Stocks and Steven Rozek for the Bandits with Jordan Caskey winning the main race for the special Allison Legacy Cars. Spectator races will be a part of this Saturday’s events card at DRP.
Tri-City Bulldogs lose 48-0 in Madison vs Manitowoc County in the Wisconsin State Football League Saturday with the local entry Bulldogs now 1-4 on the season, being shutout in all four losses. The Bulldogs face the M&M Timberjacks on the road this Saturday.
