The Baraboo Thunder softball program has been very successful in running their Big Top Blowout Tournament in June each year and now the program is hosting their first ever Classic Invitational Tournament this weekend Friday-Sunday at Pierce Park. The Thudner program has hosted a tournament in August in previous years but the feeling prevails that this month is a better time for a tournament such as this. Tournament Director Kate Brickl notes that this event is geared more towards lower level teams and non-travel teams while the Big Top Blowout Tourney features more elite level summer teams and is more of a high level event. All seven Baraboo Thunder teams will be competing this weekend including three teams at the U-1o level, both U-12 teams and one for U-14 and U-16 with games beginning at 9 AM Friday, 8:30 AM Saturday and 8 AM Sunday. Five teams will be in the U-10 field with three of them Baraboo Thunder programs with five teams also in the U-12 bracket with two Baraboo Thunder teams in action there. Ten teams are in the U-14 bracket and six teams are in the U-16 field with the Baraboo Thunder team represented in each age group. Brickl says teams that have come to Baraboo in the past for tournaments are impressed with the friendliness of the community and enjoy the facilities at Pierce Park, accelerating their interest in coming back year after year. In the U-10 bracket, Baraboo Thunder Silver plays Teal at 9;30 AM Friday in the first game with Baraboo Thunder Black playing at 11 AM Friday. In the U-12 bracket, the Baraboo Thunder Teal teams plays at 9 AM Friday with Baraboo’s South-Central League team playing at 10:30 Friday in their first game. The Baraboo Thunder U-14 team plays first at 9:30 AM Friday with Wisconsin Dells also in the U-14 field with a 10:30 AM Friday tournament opener while the Baraboo Thunder U-16 team plays at 4;30 PM Friday in their first game of the weekend.
