15 high school and one college age girls basketball teams will converge on Reedsburg Area High School this weekend for an elite level summer tournament. Assumption, Colfax and Neilsville all were in the WIAA State Tournament last year with Assumption the D-5 State champion and all three have entries in the tourney which runs Friday and Saturday with Baraboo, Appleton Xavier and Adams-Friendship as 20-win programs also in this weekend’s field. Stanley-Boyd, La Crosse Central, Dodgeville, Mondovi, Eau Claire North De Forest, Altoona and Markesan along with Reedsburg also are in the tournament as is a group of college players from the area who are taking the place of Richland Center who had to pull out recently due to other committments. The 16 teams are broken up into four pools of four teams each so teams will play three games within their pool Friday afternoon and evening and on Saturday morning before single elimination play begins Saturday afternoon leading up to the championship game at about 6:45 PM. All teams will play a minimum of four games and as many as seven. Play begins at 1:30 PM Friday with both gyms at RASH being used with games through 7:20 PM and the action begins Saturday at 9:30 AM. Baraboo will play at 1:30 PM and 6:30 PM Friday and Noon Saturday with Reedsburg’s initial games scheduled for 5:40 PM and 7:20 PM Friday and 10:20 AM Saturday. This is the third straight year that Reedsburg has hosted this late June event.
