Sauk Prairie Eagles At WIAA State Team Wrestling For The First Time Ever

It’s been an historic season already for the Sauk-Prairie Eagle wrestlers and another chapter will be added tonight as the Eagles appear in the WIAA State Team Wrestling Tournament for the first time in school history as the Eagles face Mukwonago in one of four D-1 quarter-final dual meets tonight at 7 PM at the UW Field House. Sauk went 10-2 for the dual season this year with only a loss to Mount Horeb-Barneveld and to Lancaster, both one-point decisions and the Eagles won the team title at the Waunakee Regional before defeating Holmen 37-23 at Sauk to win their first State team berth. The Badger North co-champion Eagles had a school record six wrestlers qualify for the State Individual Tournament last weekemnd with Eddie Smith at 113 and Jared Schaaf at 170 both placing fifth and 132-pounder Austin Fjoser placed sixth while Austin Powell at 138, Brandon Sprecher at 152 and Caleb Sisbach at 195 all competed as well and all won at least one match in Madison. The rest of tonight’s lineup shows Alec Bader at 106, Kyle Herbrand at 120, Luke Vils at 126, Dylan Rasque at 145, Chris Chrisler at 160, Gage Neumaier at 182, Gavin Halverson at 220 and Zach Neimi at 285 for coach Scott Smith. Mukwonago won the Classic Eight Conference title and then knocked off West Allis Central 38-21 in the Team Sectional to punch their ticket to Team State at 13-8 for the dual season, the worst overall record of the eight D-1 schools. Sauk has six wrestlers that have won 30 or more matches and Mukwonago has five. Other D-1 duals tonight have 20-0 Kaukana vs Lake Geneva Badger at 20-4, 19-3 Bay Port vs Menominee Falls at 17-3 and Wausau West at 18-3 facing 12-1 Burlington. The D-1 semi-finals are set for 9 AM Saturday with Sauk-Prairie facing Kaukana or Badger should they advance. The D-2 and D-3 semi-final are at 1 PM Satruday and three state finals matches are at 6 PM, all at the UW Field House in Madison.
