WIAA Regional Boys Basketball Tournament Update For Area Teams

D-2 Reedsburg 53 Mount Horeb 45 OT-Reedsburg makes 22 of 26 free throws for the game and they score 15 points in the overtime session at the foul line to go 14-10 overall as they record their second win of the season at Mount Horeb who finishes 16-7 overall. apreace Salinas had 16 points and Nate Runde and Steve Gavin score 12 each for the Beavers. Reedsburg is the six seed in the half-sectional bracket and will now play Saturday night at two seed Monroe who won their game 56-52 over Portage Friday night.
Monroe 56 Portage 52-Portage rallied from seven down in the third quarter to take a two-point lead early in the fourth quarter but Monroe rallied and made a majority of their free throws to keep Portage at bay. Daniel Beck scores 20 points and Ian Taylor 13 for the Warriors who finish 10-14 overall and for 16-7 Monroe, Alex Barenklau and Trent Wyssbrod score 14 each. Reedsburg at Monroe at 7 PM Saturday night for a berth in next week’s Sectional.
DeForest 64 Monona Grove 61 OT-De Forest gets a game tying basket with less than 10 seconds left in regulation from Brett Minick who scores 22 and Jeff Berry adds 14 for the Norskies who win in OT to go 14-9 overall. De Forest will face conference rival Waunakee at Waunakee Saturday night for a berth in the Sectional next week as Waunakee wins 71-57 over Mc Farland Friday night with Will Decorah and Ran Kruser combining for 44 points for 18-5 Badger North champion Warriors.
D-3 Wisconsin Dells 76 Platteville 49-Dells took control early and built a 39-19 halftime lead en route to their 22nd win vs just one loss. MJ Delmore scores 21 points, Shane Wimann 18 and Mike Dickman 17 for the third ranked Chiefs who will host River Valley Saturday night at 7 PM for a berth in the Sectional next week.
River Valley 45 Dodgeville 41-River Valley was up five after three quarters but Dodgeville actually led for much of the final period before a late 6-0 surge helps River Valley to their secondwin over the Dodgers this season. Gale De Vita’s nine points led 15-9 River Valley and Nick Crowley had 18 for 18-6 Dodgeville.
Nekoosa 56 Mauston 46-Nekoosa knocks off the runner-up in the South-Central behind 26 points from Owen Linzmeier as Mauston ends the season at 15-8 despite 18 points from Hunter Nelson. Nekoosa as the six seed in the half-sectional bracket moves on to host seven seed Prairie Du Chien who upset two seed Richland Center 50-43 Friday night.
D-5 Hillsboro 58 La Farge 40-Avery Ruckheim scores 19 and Matt Anderson 15 for the 11-13 Tigers who avenge an early season loss to La Farge. Hillsvoro outscored La Farge37-14 over the middle two periods after trailing early. La Farge ends the season 13-10 overall. Hillsboro advances to a Regional final Saturday night in Elroy against the Scenic Bluffs champion and sixth ranked Royall Panthers who are 21-3 after a 57-33 win over Kickapoo Friday behind 19 points from Nate Scheeter and 17 from Sam Murphy. Royall won 51-27 and 69-32 vs Hillsboro in the regular season. Reedsburg hosts a D-2 WIAA Sectional girls gymnastics meet today at 10 AM with Baraboo, Sauk-Prairie and River Valley also part of the nine-school field. Tommie Brenner from the Reedsburg-Weston coop looks for a repeat trip to State with Baraboo’s Jordan Laymon another top hopeful. The top two teams and top five individuals in each event and in the all-around advance to State next weekend in Wisconsin Rapids.
Dells Ducks Junior Hockey is wrapping up the regular season on the road this weekend in the Minnesota Junior Hockey League with the playoffs beginning next week.
