Area High School Hockey Teams Learn Of Their WIAA Tournament Matchups

Seeding meetings took place over this past weekend to determine the pairings for the upcoming WIAA Tournament series for boys and girls high school hockey with post-season play beginning next week. Baraboo-Portage is 11-6-2 overall and they get the five seed in the 12-team Wisconsin Dells Sectional which means an opening round matchup at home with 12 seed Sparta-Mauston Tuesday February 12th at 7:30 PM at the Pierce Park Pavillion. The winner advances to play at four seed West Salem on Friday next week at 7:30 PM as they get a bye from the first round as one of the top four seeds. The Sauk-Prairie Coop is 11-9-1 overall and they are the six seed in this Sectional and will host 11 seed Black River Falls next Tuesday at 7 PM with the winner moving on to play at the three seed Aquinas Coop next Thursday night in Onalaska. RWD is 11-10 officially for the season and they are the seven seed and hosting ten seed Viroqua next Tuesday with the winner to play at two seed Onalaska on Thursday of next week. Wisconsin Rapids is the top seed in the Sectional with the Sectional final scheduled for Friday February 22nd at Poppy Waterman Arena in Wisconsin Dells.

The Badger Thunder girls hockey coop has the seven seed in the eight-team Onalaska Sectional and the Thunder, 7-13-2 overall, will face two seed Metro Lynx out of Middleton in the first round Thursday next week at the Madison Ice Arena at 5:30 PM. The Thunder is 0-2 vs the Metro Lynx this season.
