Wrestling: Baraboo, Portage, River Valley, Weston-Ithaca, Hillsboro, Royall, Mauston and Adams-Friendship at the Bi-State Invite at the La Crosse Center. Baraboo has had only one dual with that being a loss to Lodi and they’ve been in two tournaments with David Gale at 9-1 individually for the Thunderbirds. Other top area hopefuls at the Bi-State include Seth Liegel and Garrett Riek of River Valley, Christian Moore from Royall and Colin Dolata of Mauston among others. Wrestling begins this morning at 9:30 AM and continues tomorrow morning with 53 teams involved.
Sauk-Prairie at the Mid-States Classic at UW-Whitewater-Sauk has won all three duals early on this season and Austin Fjoser and Caleb Sisbach each have won two tournament titles while four other Sauk wrestlers also have a tourney title to their credit already this season. Action begins at 10 AM today and runs through tomorrow at UW-Whitewater with over 40 teams competing.
Wisconsin Dells at the On The Water Classic at UW-Oshkosh-Dells has split two duals with Freshman Willie Vandenlangenberg also owning a tournament title. Wisconsin Dells will be one of over 60 schools in action today and tomorrow.
Boys Basketball: Baraboo at Lake Geneva Badger at 4 PM-Baraboo takes a 1-6 record to southeastern Wisconsin and looking to snap a five-game losing skid. Baraboo lost 51-38 to Sauk back on December 14th and this will be their first game in two full weeks after a postponement last week at Reedsburg. Baraboo hopes to hit some shots and reduce their turnovers today with the Thunderbirds still averaging less than 30 points per game. Baraboo waits another full week after today before their next game vs De Forest January 4th.
Reedsburg hosts holiday tournament today and tomorrow-Reedsburg puts a 5-2 record on the line against Adams at 6 PM with the Beavers having won two straight. Capreace Salinas for Reedsburg is the leading scorer in Badger North so far this season. Hillsboro meets Poynette at 4 PM today at RAHS with Hillsboro 3-4 for the season as the Tigers come in with wins in two of the last three games. Saturday’s schedule shows Adams vs Hillsboro at 2 PM and Reedsburg vs Poynette at 4 PM.
Wisconsin Dells visits Portage tonight in non-conference high school boys basketball in a matchup of former conference rivals. Dells is off to a 9-0 start and ranked third in the D-3 coaches poll and averaging over 70 points per game, showing dominance in most of them. Portage is getting by without top scorer Adam Considine for the rest of the season due to a knee injury with the Warriors at 3-4 overall with this being their first game in two weeks time. Portage lost 69-67 to De Forest the last time out while the Dells Chiefs won 67-46 at Black River Falls.
Royall at the one-day Auburndale Holiday Tourney-Royall is state ranked in the D-5 boys coaches poll at 6-1 with the one loss coming in their last game vs Mauston.
Girls Basketball: Wisconsin Dells at Portage-This is a 6 PM game prior to the boys contest between these two schools. Dells is 4-4 overall but looking to snap a two-game losing skid with losses to Baraboo and Mauston. Portage is 1-6 and owners of a five-game losing streak themselves. Portage has failed to reach 40 points in four of their seven games this season.
UW-Baraboo Men’s Basketball plays today and tomorrow at the JUCO Classic Tourney at UW-Fox Valley
