Wrestling: Reedsburg Invite at 9 AM-Nine schools take part in an individual scramble format with Weston-Ithaca among the teams taking part, Nate Erbs returns as a 30-win wrestler and a State qualifier for the Reedsburg Beavers and new Coach Rob Bautch who begins his second stint as Beavers head coach, Wyatt Seep is the top returnee for Weston-Ithaca with returning State champion Clayton Jennings out for the entire season with a knee injury. It’s the season opening action for both local squads.
Sauk-Prairie sends some wrestlers to the Janesville Parker Duals and some to an individual tournament in Campbellsport to open their season, Jared Schaaf is a returning State qualifier for the Eagles who return seven other regulars from a year ago.
Wisconsin Dells, Mauston and Hillsboro among the schools at the Royall High School wrestling invite in Elroy-John Mor, Andrew Mc Clyman and Jake Shirley all return as Sectional qualifiers for the Dells who begin their season today along with Hillsboro while Mauston won a dual Thursday over Kickapoo-La Farge.
Portage at the Black River Falls Invite-Portage won their dual meet opener Thursday 36-30 over Madison La Follette.
Boys Swimming: Baraboo, Sauk-Prairie-Wisconsin Heights Coop and Portage open the season at the Sun Prairie Invite at 10 AM-Baraboo and coach Tom Stout returns Tanner Craker, Brian Cormican, Dan O’Rourke and Sam Trotter as State Meet swimmers from a year ago, the Sauk-Prairie Coop returns five State swimmers themselves in Andrew Meng, Bryan Frosch, Spencer Shuman, Owen Wills and Brady Mautz.
Girls Basketball: Baraboo at Sauk-Prairie in the Badger North opener for both schools, Baraboo returns all-leaguers Samantha Terry and Emily Brinker from an 18-win team last year with Terry the number two rated Senior entering the season according to WisSports.net. Anna and Isabel Schmelzer and Carli Zimmerman are other top returnees from last year and Kelsey Digmann has returned to the program and will play a key role also, Sauk opened their season with a 69-58 win over Richland Center Thursday with Georgia Breunig scoring 18, Lindsey Sauer 14 and Ali Roach 12 for the Eagles. Dells Ducks Junior Hockey hosts the Edina Lakers at 6:30 PM tonight and Noon Sunday in the Minnesota Junior Hockey League at the Poppy Waterman Arena in the Dells.
